March 16, 2010: PRC Executive Vice President and Policy Director Karen Friedman and Senior Policy Adviser Norman Stein sent a letter to the House Committee on Ways and Means, asking it to protect workers and retirees when marking up funding relief legislation.

Letter from PRC and the National Women’s Law Center to the Oklahoma state legislature on military pensions
September 10, 2009: Together with the National Women’s Law Center, the PRC sent a letter to the Oklahoma state legislature expressing concerns about proposed legislation that would change the way Oklahoma state courts divide military pension benefits.

April 1, 2009: The PRC sent a letter to the Treasury Department requesting that it clarify that the new “Make Work Pay” tax credit should not change the amount of money pension plans withhold from pension checks for tax purposes.

PRC letter to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management regarding spousal benefits for federal employees
February 2, 2009: In a letter to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the PRC requested that OPM send notices to federal employees warning them that their spouses could be in danger of losing survivor benefits. See OPM’s response.

PRC letter to the IRS and Treasury Department on cash balance accruals
September 24, 2008: Senior Policy Adviser Norman Stein submitted comments [PDF] on behalf of the Pension Rights Center to the IRS and the Department of Treasury on cash balance accruals. Earlier this year, the Center sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Paulson on this topic.

PRC comments to EBSA on proposed regulations for disclosure in participant-directed individual account plans (09/08/2008)
The Pension Rights Center submitted comments to the Employee Benefits Security Administration on the Department of Labor’s proposed regulations for fiduciary requirements for disclosure in participant-directed individual account plans. While generally supportive of greater disclosure, the Center took issue with several aspects of the proposed regulations.

The Pension Rights Center submitted comments to the Employee Benefits Security Agency on a proposed model notice for multiemployer plans in critical status. The Center urged the Department of Labor to focus on the needs of those receiving the notice, when coming up with final regulations.
